Rendezvous

Marlyce (Martens) Gundy and Sharon (Sawatsky) Schermbrucker began singing classical and folk duets in their teens. After a long hiatus, they reunited to form the chamber group Beauty in the Blends, which has performed across the U.S. and Canada. Meanwhile, Marlyce married Jeff Gundy, and they played and sang folk music as a duo.

As the folk trio Rendezvous, Marlyce, Sharon, and Jeff now bring their close harmonies to tunes by Kate Wolf, the Wailin Jennys, Dave Carter, Old Crow Medicine Show, and others, with all three on vocals and Jeff on 6- and 12-string guitar.

Spencer Cunningham

Spencer Cunningham (on the right in the photo) has been playing and singing a mixture of roots, folk, appalachian, old-time gospel, and string band music, since discovering the Weavers, Peter Paul and Mary, The New Lost Ciy Ramblers, Bob Dylan, et. al, while in college. More recently he has been writing original songs, singing solo, or with the Toledo, Ohio based string band, "Ten Mile Creek", where he plays claw-hammer banjo, Guitar, and mandolin. Their reportoir is American / appalachian roots oriented, and they have played for an extremely diverse list of audiences, including, State Parks, City and Community Events, Contra and Square Dances, Churches and Ecumenical Events,Coffee Houses, University sponsored oganizations such as the ,Young Democrats and Campus Crusade for Christ, Old Time Music Festivals, Period Reinactments, Private Parties, and this past year, were the band for the Three visits of John Kerry to the Toledo/Bowling Green area, as well as John Edward's visit to Lima, OH.

Spencer's individual programs feature some beautiful, sometimes haunting, and always enriching old time southern appalachian, ballads, and gospel songs, original songs traveling from personal to political, while passing through humor and pathos, and covers of some well known and little known contemporary song-smiths, such as Gillian Welch, and . . . well you probably haven't heard of them so we'll skip that.

Spencer is working on a CD of his songs, and "Ten Mile Creek" is putting together a more current CD as well.

Both Spencer and "Ten Mile Creek" are available for musical programs and to play for contra / square dances with a caller of your choice or a fine friend we often work with here in North West Ohio.

Spencer teaches photography at the Toledo Museum of Art and Owen community College, and has been photographing traditional acoustic musicians for two decades. An exhibition, and/or photography/music workshop along with a concert by Spencer or "Ten Mile Creek" is also an option.
