Mennofolk

About Us

History

Since Mennofolk Manitoba started in 1999, the organization has consisted of various events and has been held at a number of locations.  In its early beginnings, Mennofolk was an outdoor festival held at Camp Assiniboia. In recent years, however, Mennofolk has moved indoors and into the city. Although the number of events Mennofolk hosts varies every year, the art show and music showcase continues to be an annual event at the end of February in Winnipeg. This event showcases emerging artists with a variety of artistic and musical styles. The event is open to all ages and a faspa is provided.

Why do we celebrate Mennofolk?

Key to what gives Mennofolk its identity and makes it unique is that it is rooted in the Mennonite tradition. We realize, however, that some people feel estranged or disconnected from the Mennonite church. Mennofolk seeks to help bridge this gap by providing an atmosphere and context for art that may not have a place in the church. We celebrate Mennofolk because it provides an outlet for artists and musicians associated with the Mennonite community to break from tradition and explore new ideas.
We also celebrate Mennofolk each year because God is revealed to us in a variety of ways. Hopefully our committee, the artists, the musicians and the people who attend the festival will demonstrate this, making everyone feel welcome at Mennofolk.

Mennofesto:

Mennofolk is an organization celebrating music and art from people associated with the Mennonite community, either culturally or religiously.
Mennofolk seeks to provide opportunity for expression for those art forms that may not ordinarily be found in church.
Mennofolk seeks to provide a welcoming atmosphere for people regardless of age and level of connectedness to the Mennonite Church to come together and appreciate the music and art of the Mennonite community.
